Frequently Asked Questions
How Much Does Adopting Cost?

We ask a minimum donation of €100 for any dog. This goes towards, but does not cover, the cost of their microchip, neuter operation and vaccinations.

How does the process work?

We conduct a home check on everyone wanting to adopt one of our dogs, this is to make sure there is a secure garden and that all the household is prepared for a dog.

We only give out small puppies to families with younger children (under teenagers), we normally don’t have any history on our adult dogs so can’t guarantee them with children.

Puppies need someone at home during the day, or someone who is able to call in to the pup regularly during the day to toilet train a pup and give them company.

We don’t give dogs to people who are in private rented accommodation, landlords are within their rights to change their mind about pets without notice.

All puppies adopted from us MUST be neutered when they are 6 months old, adult dogs will be neutered before leaving the sanctuary.

If things don’t work out all our dogs must be brought back to us, they are not to be passed on to anyone else

What Is the Difference Between Adopting and Fostering?

Fostering a pet is one of the most rewarding experiences you can have (other than adopting, of course). By taking an animal in need temporarily into your home you’re: freeing up a spot so the shelter or rescue can take in another pet. giving your foster pet the time he needs to be ready for adoption.

Do I need to make an appointment before visiting?

You don’t need to make an appointment to visit the centre.

You can visit Dogs Aid between 12pm and 4pm six days a week, only closed on a Tuesday.

Can I reserve a pet online or over the phone?

We do not take pet reservations online or over the phone. While we encourage you to look at the pets we have available on our site to learn more about them, the only way to begin the rehoming process is to visit the Dogs Aid centre in person.

If this involves a lengthy trip or you are very interested in a particular pet, you are welcome to call ahead to enquire further about them.

Once you have visited Dogs Aid, and both you and our staff are happily agreed on the right pet for you, we will then reserve the pet for you until the rehoming process is complete.

NOTE: Once we have agreed to reserve a pet for you, we cannot reserve the pet for you for an extended period of time (more than 2 weeks) as this restricts us from taking in new animals in need of our help.
