Can you dedicate some time each week / month to help us at Dogs’ Aid Animal Sanctuary?
As we are entirely volunteer led, we are in need of volunteers every day to cover the basic daily tasks in the sanctuary.
We are particularly short-handed during the week (Mon-Fri). Maybe you are retired or work part-time? Could you spare a few hours during the week? We are always happy to see new volunteers on the weekends too, as there is always plenty of work to be done!
We are almost entirely funded by donations and fundraising, if you would like to join our fundraising team email info@dogsaid.ie.
New volunteers will start at 10:00am to learn our daily routines. It might not be glamorous work but it is rewarding and the love you will receive from the dogs makes it all worth while 🐾
Volunteers arrive and start at 10:00 am.
While the dogs eat their breakfast in their kennels, the morning begins with the volunteers cleaning the yard, changing water bowls, and cleaning the outdoor pens. Volunteers then help to let the dogs out of their kennels, and the kennel cleaning can commence. Some volunteers remain in the yard to supervise the dogs, and handwash the dogs’ breakfast bowls. Others set about cleaning the indoor and outdoor kennels, and starting the laundry (i.e. washing/drying of dog bedding).
In the afternoons, the washing and drying of the dog bedding continues until it is all done, so that clean bedding is available for the next day. Volunteers spend quality time with the dogs in the yard, giving them attention, affection, and cleaning up any accidents!
Volunteers can also walk dogs from the outdoor kennels, or bring them to the runs for a play, cuddle, or sometimes even a snooze! Don’t worry if you are unable to walk long distances – we have plenty of dogs who just love sitting with a volunteer or getting some short sniffy walks.
The sanctuary opens to the public from 1-4pm (except Tuesdays). Volunteers will help with meeting and greeting visitors, and introducing them to adoptable dogs.
You must be over 18 to volunteer!
You must LOVE animals!
You must wear suitable footwear, and old clothes are advised as you may get mucky!
